Russian Red Garlic

A popular rocambole garlic grown for its large copper-veined, purple blotched bulbs that are 2" and larger in diameter. Brought to the Northwest by Russian Doukhobor immigrants in the 1900s. Eaten raw flavor has a intense heat that is long lasting, like a hot pepper. This variety has the ability to withstand soggy winter soils much better than other garlic.

It's best to plant garlic in the fall or early winter. Garlic grows best in full sun in a fertile loose soil with good drainage. In addition to adding compost to the planting bed, fertilize twice more with nitrogen as garlic is a nitrogen hog.
