A grower named Sandra Tipton discovered them in an unmarked bin with no name at the market called Saraga while shopping in 2019. She was amazed at the size of the largest brown pepper she has ever seen. So, she saved seeds and shared with some of us in the chile community. The Saraga Giant Sweet Chocolate chile can grow over a foot long and over 2 inches in diameter. It resembles a huge Hatch type chile, but it ripens from green to a dark brown. They are extremely sweet with some fruity tones. When roasted the sweetness increases. They are great for roasting, stuffing, salads and sweet sauces. The plants produce bunches of huge groups of peppers like bananas. They are so productive you will need to support the weight of them. The Saraga Giant Sweet Chocolate pepper plants grow just over 4 feet tall.
