Description   White Leghorns Egg Color Egg Size (oz/doz) Rate of Lay White 25 - 26 Excellent Originated in Italy prior to 1815 and came to the United States from Spain and Italy as early as 1835. Hen are large enough to be used for meat when their use as laying hens has been completed. On both the male and female all the plumage is white. Most of the commercial white egg layers are predominately White Leghorn crosses. Chicks are pale yellow or creamy white. Hardy breed, but combs subject to frostbite in extreme cold weather areas. Leghorns are a flighty breed, very nervous. Adult Weight - Male: 6 pounds ; Female: 4.5 pounds Purpose - Egg Laying Breed - Mediterranean Class
