Description
Chives :

"
A perennial herb in zones 3 to 11, Garlic Chives also known as Chinese chives have a flat blade unlike regular Chives that have hollow spears. Garlic Chives do make a very small bulb that can be used like a small green onion. Harvest bulbs while the flower is still a bud. Be sure to leave some of the bulbs in the ground so the plant can continue to grow. Plant grows to about 1 foot tall.
Chinese garlic chives are known for their strong “garlicky” flavor.
Culinary Uses :
Garlic Chives
are perfect for use in uncooked dishes where raw regular garlic might be overwhelming or too spicy. G
reat added to stir-frys and egg dishes, soups, stews, salads and meat marinades.
Medicinal Uses :
Garlic chives contain a sulphur-rich mustard oil that aids digestion and helps promote the flow of blood. The rejuvenating power of this oil has been known since ancient times, when chives were used to heal wounds. Low in fat and high in dietary fibre and protein, they contain high amounts of Vitamin C and carotene, and are a good source of calcium. They also contain Vitamin B1 and B2.
Other Uses :
In the garden, Garlic Chives make an attractive addition to borders and rock gardens. If allowed to flower white flowers will crown many of the stems. Butterflys, honey bees, bumble bees, and native pollinators love chive flowers.
